 Prompt Response: I am very interested in origins of traditions so I would love to learn about the historical background of different traditions and celebrations and how they could connect back to traditions hundreds of years ago.

Summary: We watched the short film growing up Mexican in America

Reflection: No matter the culture the struggles between mother and young child can parallel each other in many ways, the exact reasonings for conflicts will differ but the overall journey of a parents struggle connecting to their child is a fairly universal experience.

After hearing your classmates’ storymap presentations, choose one classmate’s story that stood out to you. Write about what you liked or learned from their journey and explain why it was meaningful to you.

 Prompt Response: Personally I really liked Lois'. Me and Lois grew up together and so I viewed quite a few of these experiences as they happened and these revelations. Hearing about them again but through her perspective and how she actually felt about them was enlightening for me.

Reflection: I was able to learn about my classmates personal journeys and how we can relate through shared fears of public speaking despite our ways of overcoming it being completely different.

Recall a specific incident when someone’s words offended you. Describe what was said, how it made you feel, and what actions you took in response. Reflect on whether your response helped resolve the situation or changed how you think about communication.

Prompt Response: In middle school a boy in my grade would frequently harass me, it didn't usually bother me very much but in gym we were in a floor hockey unit and my team had been winning against his. Clearly he was mad that I was beating him so he decided to run up to me, call me a bitch and stomp on my foot. I was so mad because he did this mid match in front of so many people without any shame. But since he did it in front of our teacher I didnt fight him like I usually would, I just let our couch drag him to the principals office.

Summary: As a class we discussed some terms that offend us and explained why.

Reflection: I learned that an insult doesn't have to be universally offensive to upset somebody, and it can just be related to a small personal insecurity that wouldnt offend most people.

Reflect on a time when you discovered a new perspective that completely changed how you viewed a person, group, or place. How did your previous “single story” shape your thoughts or actions?

Prompt Response:  When I was 8 at church for the very first time I met a girl wearing a hijab, she was around the same age as me and was visiting for an educational event at my church where we were taught about other religions and taught to respect all of them equally. I had only seen cartoonish depictions of hijabi women as being unhappy and hating everything about their hijab. But I talked to her, and I asked if she wanted to take it off, and if it ever got itchy. She explained she willingly wore it and it made her feel closer to god and she was not forced to do anything.

Summary: Rease was out so we worked on a common lit independently

Reflection: didnt really learn anything

You are working on your storymap which is reflection on your past. Thinking about your future, as you graduate high school, what role does the Atlanta metro area play in your life? Do you plan to stay or move away? Explain your reasoning.

 Prompt Response: The Atlanta area will not play much of a large role in my life moving forward, I plan on going to college out west with my first choice being a college in Denver Colorado. The most the metro area will play is when I drive through from the airport to visit home on holidays but otherwise I wont see it much after high school.

Summary: Went through the prework sheet for the map project and did independent work on our own projects.

Reflection: We didnt really cover new material on friday so I cant say I really learned anything that particular day.

Think about a moment when you challenged your parent(s)’ rules or expectations. How did you feel, and what was the outcome?

Prompt Response: When I was younger I refused to put on fancy clothes for church on Sunday, I didn't want to attend church at all in the first place and definitely wasn't going to put on an uncomfortable pink poofy dress, so I refused. As a result my family allowed me to stay home but then after church they all got lunch and ice cream without me and said if I wanted the treats I had to go to church and wear my church clothes.

Summary: We continued working on our story map projects and analyzing the two kinds text.

Reflection: I learned alot about the authors childhood and her journey through life as a Chinese girl being raised in the states, and the ways she dealt with her mothers harsh expectations.

 Prompt Response: Fine, nothing monumental yet but overall a fine class
